For most, a trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, starts and ends at Mackinac Island. Unfortunately those who don’t make it past St Ignace are cheating themselves out of some of the most breathtaking sites this world has to offer.  In case you didn’t know the “U.P.” has been a part of Michigan since 1836 when the Mitten agreed to give Toledo to Ohio. (Insert joke here.  )

Fun Fact: In 1964 The Statue of Hiawatha (“The World’s Tallest Indian”) was brought to Ironwood to draw more traffic to the city.

With apologies to Pasties and  “Escanaba in the Moonlight” , “Pictured Rocks” in Munising is the Yoopers claim to fame.  However there are so many other things to do and see in the U.P. .

Check out  my 3 part Vlog Series about the U.P.

The natural beauty of this region is like no other place I’ve ever seen. In addition to being surrounded by the largest lake in the world in Lake Superior, The UP is home to over 200 waterfalls. Tahquamenon Falls may be the most popular, however there are scores of other falls that are equally impressive.  Sturgeon Falls, Bond Falls, and five other waterfalls inside Black River National Forest in Ironwood are just a few of the must-sees.  As are the Soo Locks in Sault St Marie and the Great Lakes Ship Wreck Museum at  Whitefish Pointe.

Fun Fact 2: President Teddy Roosevelt spent a portion of 1913 in Marquette. The “Rough Rider” came to the UP to sue a reporter for libel after  “Iron Ore” scribe George Newett described Roosevelt as a “drunkard”. Roosevelt won the case and upon his own request was awarded 6 cents.

There is so much to do, so I highly recommend you plan your UP excursion in advance. Take lots of pictures and lots of video

Viral Video Vault

One of my favorite YouTube Channels is Ken Heron’s Channel.  Not only does he use cool drone shots in his videos, but he also provides a lot of personality albeit, sometimes a bit corny….Check out  this video & see for yourself
